  • State lawmakers passed House Bill 5 that created the Office of the Child Advocate to oversee CYFD after an investigation found serious failures—Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham then cut its funding from $2.3 million to $650,000, causing concern among advocates. New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez said his office will secure the extra funds next cycle—while critics question if the reduced amount will protect vulnerable children.  KOAT
