COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Riders from the U.S. and Italy joined the third annual MMIW awareness ride across the Southwest, covering nearly 4,000 miles. Led by Brian Wilburn and the Diné Ryderz, participants honored victims like 11-year-old Ashlynne Mike in Shiprock (75 to 100 attended) and spurred vital conversations.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Al Hurricane Jr. died Tuesday at age 66, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that spans generations. A family member confirmed his passing and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham praised his impact, noting he was a true New Mexican entertainer (El Godson).  KOAT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows nearly half of renters and one in five homeowners in New Mexico spend over a third of their income on housing. Rising prices, limited rental options, and growing construction costs add to the challenge, while state programs have supported affordable housing since 2023.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A state report shows that more than half of renters and one in five homeowners spend over 30% of their income on housing. In the past three years, the state invested ($154 million) in affordable homes and plans to ask the legislature for more funds.  KOAT

HEALTH NEWS

  • New Mexico officials launched an online hub called ScrewwormNM.org to help ranchers + pet owners and veterinarians identify and report New World Screwworm infestations. Developed by state agriculture, wildlife, livestock, and health agencies, the site provides visual guides, treatment info, and emergency contacts for early detection.  KOAT
