ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fed Chair Jerome Powell hinted that the Fed may cut the rate banks pay for overnight lending in September, and local economists expect the move to lower borrowing costs for home loans, credit cards, and government projects. Economists from (UNM) and (NMSU) said the rate cut could help New Mexico’s low-income workers and reduce the risk of recession.  KOAT

HEALTH NEWS

  • New Mexico recorded 100 measles cases, prompting the Department of Health to report a 71% increase in vaccinations, and Chief Medical Officer Miranda Durham warned that even a few unvaccinated people can put the community at risk—she emphasized that efforts are underway to reach a 95% vaccination rate.  KOAT
