ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A bear got stuck in a tree Monday in San Juan County and was rescued by county Fire and Rescue with help from the state Game — Fish Department. Officials advise residents to remain calm and slowly back away if they encounter a bear. KOAT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that California, Washington and New Mexico will lose federal funding if they do not enforce trucker English rules within 30 days—California may lose $33 million, Washington $10.5 million and New Mexico $7 million. New Mexico has not removed any drivers for language violations while inspections in the other states showed few cases. KOAT
- ➤ Drivers in New Mexico are urged to drive carefully as monsoon storms hit the region and flood watches cover areas like Las Vegas where burn scars increase the risk of catastrophic flooding—Transportation Department officials warn that heavy rainfall can overwhelm drainage systems and cause vehicles to hydroplane. Officials stress that as little as 12 inches of rushing water can float a vehicle, so drivers should slow down and follow local weather updates. KOAT
