EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Duckett visited San Juan College today on The Mayor's Table to explain how skilled trades programs such as welding + diesel technology and fire science prepare local students for important careers. He spoke with Troy Brown, dean of the School of Trades and Technology, about the growing need for hands-on training in Farmington. City of Farmington
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Doctors at UNM and the CDC warn that the flu can cause serious illness and urge everyone six months and older to get the vaccine before October — giving about two weeks for immunity to develop before flu cases rise in December, and advising those with severe symptoms or underlying conditions to seek medical help promptly. KOAT
- ➤ The New Mexico Department of Health reported 512 suicides in 2024, a 9% rise from 2023, with white residents having the highest rates and young people aged 10—34 at higher risk. Mental Health America CEO Andrew O'Grady said the 27% jump among Hispanics and the overall increase show a need for better mental health care. KOAT
