If you live within a half mile of the Animas, La Plata or San Juan rivers, the county told you to get to higher ground Sunday. The advisory went out around 2 p.m., and evacuation orders run from the New Mexico-Colorado state line to where the rivers meet in Farmington. A 1:47 p.m. alert reported an "imminent threat" with a flash flood warning until 8:30 p.m.
- Bloomfield schools: closed Monday
- Low-water crossings: turn around if you reach one
- Take your emergency supplies if you leave
The county also asked you to avoid crossing moving water. The National Weather Service reported a river flood warning for the Animas and La Plata rivers and a section of the San Juan near Shiprock, meteorologist Clay Anderson said. The heavier rain fell upstream, and that water is heading south.
