- ➤ Since October, the New Mexico Department of Transportation has been preparing roads statewide and scheduling crews in Albuquerque with trucks full of salt and cinders — ready for immediate use — to treat icy roads. Drivers are advised to pack water, a phone charger, gas, and emergency items like a scraper and blanket as winter weather approaches. KOAT
