- ➤ Four New Mexico teachers are finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching—an honor for outstanding math and science education. Alicia Gonzales from Pojoaque Valley Public Schools teaches math, Marianne Markham from Santa Fe Public Schools teaches science, Demvia Maslian from New Mexico Military Institute teaches science, and Jennifer Webb from East Mountain High School teaches math; winners will later receive a trip to Washington D.C. with professional development, $10,000, and a presidential certificate. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ San Juan County is studying a new freight rail connection with Interstate 40—funded by a $2 million federal grant and involving the Navajo Nation and the Federal Railroad Administration—to boost regional commerce. Updated real estate data shows 99 homes sold at a median price of $265,000 and Farmington will host the Hood Mesa Trail Run on June 7th with five race options and discounted registration through May.
